FIPA (Foundation for Intelligent Physical Agents)

FIPA has been working to develop and promote standardization in the area of agent interoperability since 1996. It has an on-going work program, meeting around the globe on a quarterly basis, with excess of 50 member organizations. With 4 years of existence and the extensive specifications produced, FIPA is a reference organization in intelligent agents.
FIPA is now the eleventh standards committee under the IEEE Computer Society.

OMG Analysis and Design Task Force (ADTF)

This OMG task force recommends standards for analysis and design of software systems. It was origianlly conceived for object-oriented development, but now addresses a wider area—including components and agents. I am the Task Force chair.

OSLO Software

OSLO Software provides an innovative enterprise platform to design, build and execute adaptive business solutions. Its product, OSLO Suite, helps organizations manage complex, exception-rich, business operations through goal oriented software design and execution. OSLO Suite guides and automates business operations, enabling faster and more accurate decision making. It enables this by providing a multi-agent system development platform that employs and MDA approach to generating code using UML diagrams and extensions to UML.

Intelligent Automation, Inc.

Since its beginning 18 years ago, IAI has been building and refining a foundation of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Although addressing very diverse applications, all of IAI's current programs are built on that foundation.

Agent UML (AUML) group

An initial effort is underway to develop a unified modeling language for agents and agent-based systems. Comments and participation are welcomed.

Complex Adaptive Systems (AKA Complex Systems, CAS)

CAS is one of the most interesting and important areas of research in the world today. While it has implications for software, it goes well beyond that to areas such as physics, biology, economics, political science, and psychology. Of the many sites devoted to this topic, my favorites are listed below.

Software Agents

Agents are the actors in complex adaptive systems. While I am heavily involved in applying CAS to business in general, its application to software is also very important to me. There are many more sites devoted to this topic than CAS. The sites listed below are just some of those I frequent.
