This OMG task force recommends standards for analysis and design of software systems. It was origianlly conceived for object-oriented development, but now addresses a wider areaincluding components and agents. Also see the OMG agent information page.
For agent-related standards work, see the OMG agent document page.
FIPA has been working to develop and promote standardization in the area of agent interoperability since 1996. Within the first 10 years of existence and the extensive specifications produced, FIPA is a reference organization in intelligent agents.
FIPA is now the eleventh standards committee under the IEEE Computer Society.
Cougaar Software, Inc. provides technologies and solutions for developers and integrators to create next generation intelligent systems. Their flagship product is ActiveEdge, a full featured development platform for creating distributed, intelligent agent solutions. They provide design, development and integration services for ActiveEdge and Open Source Cougaar, as well as training and technical support. Their typical intelligent systems solution addresses large, complex problems with significant amounts of data which must be reasoned over and acted upon in near real-time. They specialize in designing and building systems around the Sense & Respond paradigm, and can span the spectrum from sensor devices to advanced decision support.
Software Agents
Agents are the actors in complex adaptive systems. While I am heavily involved in applying CAS to business in general, its application to software is also very important to me. There are many more sites devoted to this topic than CAS. The sites listed below are just some of those I frequent.
Complex Adaptive Systems (AKA Complex Systems, CAS)
CAS is one of the most interesting and important areas of research in the world today. While it has implications for software, it goes well beyond that to areas such as physics, biology, economics, political science, and psychology. Of the many sites devoted to this topic, my favorites are listed below.
